National Science Day is celebrated on 28th February every year in order to commemorate  the discovery of Raman Effect  by the eminent Physicist of India  Sir Chandrasekhra Venkata  Raman on the same day in 1928.The Science faculty of the Govt. P.G. College, Seema   celebrated National Science Day on 29th Feb.,2016. The students from different disciplines participated in various activities such as exhibition, Poster making competition and power point presentation on different topics based on the theme of the year “Make in India-S&T driven Innovations
1. Introduction:
The 28th February was great day in the history of the country as on this day the eminent Physicist of India  Sir Chandrasekhra Venkata  Raman  discovered the Raman effect (Effect on scattering of light when passing through different materials). To commemorate and honour this event always in future, the 28th February was asked to the Indian government to designate as National science Day in India by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) in the year 1986. From then this day is celebrated every year across the country as National Science Day. For this great success C.V. Raman was awarded Nobel Prize in Physics in the year 1930 and with this he also became first Indian scientist to win the Nobel Prize. The Science faculty of the Govt. P.G. College, Seema  celebrated National Science Day on 29th Feb.,2016. The students from different disciplines such as Zoology, Botany, Physics, chemistry, Mathematics and Geography participated in various activities such as Exhibition, Poster making competition and Power point presentation on different topics based on the theme of the year “Make in India-S&T driven Innovations”. The function was attended by more than 100 students of college.
2. Objectives:

  • To widely spread the message about the significance of scientific applications in the daily life of the people.
  • To display all the activities, efforts and achievements in the field of science for human welfare.
  • To discuss the issues and implement new technologies for the development of science.
  • To give opportunity to the scientific minded citizens in the country.
  • To encourage the people as well as popularize the Science and technology.


3. Activity conducted:
The activity of the Science Day started with exhibition by the students of the different disciplines showcasing equipments, models, charts and posters prepared by them. Dr. Parmod Chauhan , Principal and chief guest  of the day with other staff members observed and appreciated the efforts of the students. Thereafter, the Dr. Umesh  Narta welcomed the chief guest officially. This was followed by power point presentations by the participants on different topics as  shown below.

This was followed by a skit by the students titled “ Pehle Aur Ab” depicting how the science has changed  the life of human beings especially the use of  modern gadgets and equipments have revolutionized  the way human beings perform various tasks. The Chief guest of the Day Dr. Parmod Chauhan interacted with the students and also apprised the students about the relevance of the Science and Technology and motivated them to develop scientific temper in day to day activities. In the end he distributed the prizes to the winners of the  poster making competition viz. Ojaswi from Deptt. of Physics was adjudged 1st in poster making Competition while Piyush from Deptt.  of Chemistry and Neha Sauhta from Deptt. of Zoology were adjudged 2nd and 3rd respectively.

4. Learning Outcome/Conclusion:
The celebration of National Science Day was wonderful experience for all the students of the college. The students of the Science faculty were very happy that they got chance to showcase their creativity to the other students and teachers.  The presentation given by the students on different topics were very useful for students in audience as well as for the presenting students in   boosting their confidence to face the audience. The discussion session held was very interesting  and thought provoking which satisfied the curiosity and inquisitiveness  of the students.
